Ashur Sarnaya: Iraqi Christian Martyred for the Gospel of Christ

While a handicapped Iraqi Christian is brutally publicly assassinated, Europe remains ashamedly silent concerning Christendom, religious freedom, and the dangers of extremism.
September 10, 2025 is the day when Ashur Sarnaya, a Christian martyr from the Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian district of Erbil in Iraq, was publicly murdered by an Islamist extremist in Lyon, France.
Yet, as per usual, the majority of the Western world was too busy roaring about mainstream news, rioting, looting and destroying public property to even notice, grieve or talk about the martyrdom of Ashur.
As reported by Reuters on Sept., 22nd,
"Protesters against Israel's Gaza offensive clashed with police in Milan and other Italian cities on Monday as tens of thousands marched in Rome and dockworkers blocked ports in solidarity with Palestinians" (Greco, Claudia et. al., Reuters, 2025.)
"Police in riot gear fired tear gas to try to disperse protesters at the central station in Milan. The protesters, some dressed in black & others waving the Palestinian flag, used a pole to smash a window at the station and hurled a chair at police during the clashes. More than 10 people were arrested in Milan and around 60 police officers suffered bruising or more serious injuries, Italy's ANSA news agency reported" (ibidem.)
While humanitarianism begs for humanity to care about all innocent lives lost, including the lives of children, like the ones massacred in Gaza, this particular violent demonstration in Italy proves two things.
The first, is that there is no collective comprehension of what an actual Palestinian state means for the world, given the fact that Palestine is currently led by the terrorist organization known as Hamas.
The second, is that some gobal citizens, but, especially some in Italy, would much rather assault the police and throw chairs around as some sort of "call for justice".
I do not recall the last time that breaking windows and throwing chairs ever solved a problem, let alone solve a complex political problem.
We are experiencing very convoluted global times.
It's clear that mainstream media is not giving equal coverage to all global tragedies.
It's clear that the majority of the public is experiencing derangement, fits of outrage, and a general incapacity for peaceful dialogue in the face of tragic global occurences, i.e, mass hysteria.
Universities have played a large role in propagating a global narrative of "white and western guilt", constructed on the misinterpretation of history of neocolonial theory, where minorities must be "protected at all costs" - even if they are holding a knife and a gun.
We are witnessing and living in an era where postmodern rhetoric has replaced facts with emotion, physical and verbal violence and where speaking out against such decadence is seen either as an "islamophobic" or a "racist" slur.
For the time-being, the manhunt for the culprit who publicly murdered Sarnaya is ongoing - and for now - there haven't been any large scale demonstrations or public outcries for Ashur's passing.
The Franco-Christian community is allegedly planning a public demonstration against "Christianophobia" in honor of Ashur on September 28th... and we have yet to see how that will turn out.
The Facts About Ashur's Martyrdom
According to multiple sources, Ashur and his family fled Iraq as refugees to France after the Islamic State invaded his native country.
Sarnaya was established in the online space and regularly hosted live sessions on TikTok, on his account called "Ashur Love," where his love for Christ would be professed consistently (De Sury, 2025.)
His passion was discussing Christianity, and his desire was to bring freedom of speech and independent thinking around difficult topics like Islamic groups and theology (ibidem.)
His love for Christ and his transparent faith caused Sarnaya to receive some death threats, which culminated in his martyrdom outside his home on September 10, 2025 (Unsertirol 24, 2025.)
This day coincided with the day Charlie Kirk was martyred.
As reported by multiple sources, Sarnaya was livestreaming about Christ, on his way home in a wheelchair, when he was attacked and stabbed to death in the arotid artery.
The gruesome event was observed by all his followers on his livestream in addition with living witnesses around his district.
While French police are still searching for the suspect, it has been confirmed by French political authorities that the attacker was an Islamist extremist.
French politician Marine Le Pen stated that Sarnaya "was savagely stabbed to death by an Islamist. While granting asylum to the persecuted is legitimate, our uncontrolled immigration policy now leads us to welcome their executioners."
This is shedding light on political topics that Europe needs to critically consider at this time:
immigration policy
religious extremism
identity of the nation-state & European identity
The public martyrdom of Ashur and Charlie are causing a wave of critical thought, self reflection, and a reawakening of conservatism revived across Europe.
The Political Polarization in Post-Modern Europe
Charlotte d'Ornellas, a french columnist close to SOS Chrétiens d’Orient exclaimed,
“Fleeing persecution, only to be murdered in France!” in the 'Journal du Dimanche' on Sept. 14. (De Sury, 2025.)
This particular reaction highlights the absurdity of life in postmodern Europe where an innocent political refugee escapes the extremism of his very own native country only to be murdered by more extremism found in France, a country historically rooted in Christendom, the same nation that led the French Revolution and laid the groundwork for a "democratic Europe" in The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (1789.)
Right now, Europe is being pulled in two polar opposite directions at the same time:
The way of secularization (and also a turning away from every single morale that was written in both The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (1789) and the United Nations Charter of Human Rights (1948.)
A revival of Christendom, what it means to be European, and what Christian ideals laid the foundation for democracy, free speech, equal rights and civil rights.
Up until now we've seen adult citizens and the youth alike take a rather violent stance at expressing their freedom of speech.
Just remember, that in a democracy, freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences.
In a democracy, murder is still illegal and wrong.
In a democracy, destruction of public property is still a felony.
In a democracy, protesting the death of some individuals but rejoicing at the passing of others is still hypocrisy.
At EVMO News, we stand with Ashur.
At EVMO News, we stand with the truth and with factual news.
We are against political and religious violence.
Ashur, may your soul be remembered and honored on earth.
You are not just a murdered victim, you are a martyr, and we recognize it as a fact.
In Christianity, a martyr is a person who was killed for their testimony for Jesus or faith in Jesus and for their public proclamation of the Gospel of Salvation of Lord Jesus Christ.
